MINA DISTRICT
Doha, Qatar 2023
Standing in stark contrast to the monochromatic vibes of the Arabian desert, the Mina District boasts an abundance of pastel-painted buildings that house various stores, cafes, and accommodations. This area, which used to be near the Old Doha Port, has now been transformed into an attraction that captivates locals and tourists alike.
The Mina District in Qatar is famous for being one of the most Instagram-worthy locations. The place’s ambiance changes throughout the day, so it’s best to visit at different times. At night, especially on weekends, the district is lively and brightly lit up, making it even more vibrant. You can try out the fresh seafood at Chabrat Al Mina, a seafood market and restaurant. You can also go shopping or take a Dhow cruise along Doha Bay. I personally prefer visiting early in the morning during weekdays when the shops are yet to open. This way, you can appreciate the soft and subtle desaturated hues of the buildings against the turquoise Arabian Gulf. Sometimes, you can see docked cruise ships near the New Doha Port. There are plenty of washrooms scattered within the district, so pay attention to signage as most of them are in between cafes.
The Mina District can be easily accessed by car, and you have the option of taking a taxi or driving there yourself. There is ample parking just outside the area if you choose to drive. You can also take a 20-minute walk from Souq Waqif or the National Museum Station if you plan to go by train.
Whether you are a photography enthusiast, food lover, shopaholic, or simply want to enjoy a serene walk along the promenade, Mina District will definitely have something that will interest you.
